We set off with six vehicles in very wet conditions from Roborough Aerodrome at 10.30 in two groups of three. Simon (Pajero) with Dad Bill navigating, leading new member Steve in a road equipped Jeep Cherokee followed by Dave in his TD5.
The second (all Pajero) group was led by Neal with Andy reading the map. Sean and Karen were next followed by Jim & Jack bringing up the rear.
We drove to Tavistock before heading towards Bere Ferrers via four lanes before crossing the river at the boathouse. As you can see from the picture it was a challenging crossing. Jim was volunteered to wade in first with the snorkel equipped Pajero! Steve wisely went around this hazard in the petrol driven Jeep. After draining out a couple of footwells we all the crossed back again at Lopwell Dam just before the flagstones disappeared from view under the tide and we then headed towards Meavy for lunch via Denham Bridge and Yelverton.
After Dave had eaten his customary ‘Roast Beef’ we proceeded across the Moors through to Ivybridge and took in some more lanes between Ashburton and Littlehempston. We all met to do the final lane which caught one or two of the vehicles out on the wet rocky tree root based lane. Darkness closed in at 5 so we retired to a local filling station to drain water out of lights etc. and eat the remaining morsels before heading off home in various directions.
Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm especially Steve (Jeep) on his road tyres. Thanks also to Simon, Bill, Neal and Andy for being the first to try the Route Packs out and to Dave for crossing the River twice in order that we capture the moment on camera for posterity.
