Camping Weekend Sept 13th and 14th

Jim arrived at the Pennymoor Campsite on Friday afternoon to put up his and Simon’s tents. Sean Karen and family arrived later to put up a tent the size of a small bungalow and it’s contents too!

The campsites facilities were very clean and impressed everyone – a great base for future events with friendly and helpful wardens too!

Everyone enjoyed a ‘takeaway’ from near by Modbury in the evening together with a couple of drinks and settled down reasonably early.

With an earlier than planned start on Saturday morning  (9.30!) Simon lead us through the lanes around Ashburton, Staverton,  and  Beaston with a stop for lunch at the Coppa Dolla Pub/Restaurant for lunch. We then dropped back down to Ashburton via a couple more lanes before more lanes around Moreleigh and Gara Bridge before returning to base camp where we tried the ‘fish & chip’ supper on offer at the club shop – very good it was too.

After a very cold night Sunday morning arrived even sunnier than Saturday. Tents were dismantled and we were on the road by 10.00.

Aiden joined us there and after driving thru Plymouth to store camping equipment in Jim’s garage we met Neal and Ed to drive across a local dam and head up through West Devon laning our way to Chipshop for Sunday Lunch. After lunch we continued in northerly direction visiting lanes near Sydenham Dameral, Chillaton and surrounding area, one of which had some deep mud which required some careful shovel work to even out the ruts to allow safe passage – no damage to vehicles and the lane was in better condition after the hard work!

Finally a dip into a fast flowing ford before returning to Plymouth to collect trailers and cars and go home after a great weekends company, laning, camping and weather!
