Traditionally summer is a quiet period for us as the lanes and byways tend to be overgrown and everyone is taking holidays.

However this year is different. In recent weeks we hosted the guys from Land Rover Monthly who did a feature on Green Lanes in Devon and this will appear in the August Issue (available in July).

There should be some special offers in there for the winter months so get a copy to take advantage of those.

In July we have the Isle of Wight 4×4 Club coming over to experience Devon & Cornwall         (T Cut at the ready guys).

In August we have a Devon green lane day provisionally booked on Sunday 3rd  (1 place left) at the moment.

Later in the month there is another Devon green lane event being organized (23rd /24th) with 3 places remaining. This is a confirmed event so please join us if you can.

There are free dates for the summer on the website (marked as TBA (to be arranged)), should you feel the need for a good scratch in the lanes!

Earlier this year we hosted an event for two couples from France to gain experience of driving off road prior to taking on trips to Portugal and Morocco later in the year. We drove for 4 days around the South West in varying terrains to give them an overview of what to expect!  Despite our vehicle’s auto gearbox letting go the event gave them plenty to think about prior to their adventures and an insight as to how they should prepare and equip themselves.

Thanks Guys for your input (and patience whilst recovery took place!) – I hope I answered all of your questions and demonstrated some of the pitfalls you may need to overcome!

Good luck with the treks and hope all of the new equipment enables you to get the most out of the events.

You can call us for advice and some great prices for all of the equipment you may need.

There have also been various tours around Salisbury and the Plains which, this year has been very wet and flooded in unexpected places. There are also some voluntary restrictions to consider due to the conditions and evidence of trucks & bikes deviating from the byways to get through.

In October we welcome the Jersey Offroad Club (17th 18th & 19th) for a day on Exmoor and two days of greenlaning.

On the 31st October / 1st November Lincs 4×4 Response Group are bringing 6 members to Exmoor for an experience weekend.

There has also been some interest in a Wild Camping Weekend for the autumn so planning for this is underway and details of the event will be posted on the website in the near future. If you would like to register your interest for this event which will take place around Devon & Cornwall, or any other event then please email us on

If any of you are interested in helping guide a few future events then please contact us for details and a “Job Description”.  The criteria will be demanding and local knowledge of the areas will be a key consideration.

Over the coming months we will also be having special offers on recovery equipment and accessories  – so keep an eye on the website for the new page when it appears.

Looking to the future we are now planning “Training Weekends” leading to certification with regard to off road driving, trailer handling & winching. Again if you would like to take part then please register your interest.

Vehicle preparation is another subject we are considering and we have a working link with a specialist being developed to provide expert advice and recommendations for you, your vehicle and the trips you expect to undertake!

We are looking forward to seeing you again soon and to enjoying some new and exciting developments.  As always we welcome your feedback and requests to enable us to improve where possible and to make the experience even better.

The Green Lane Association (GLASS).  I have recently volunteered to be the South Devon Rep along with David Lovejoy who is covering North Devon and Somerset.

It is a worthwhile cause with another NERC Act in the early stages of passage through the House of Commons as I type this.  So join up now please!
